LEGENDARY LED ZEPPELIN FRONTMAN ROBERT PLANT REVEALS REASON FOR TURNING DOWN GAME OF THRONES ROLE

SPEAKING IN A RECENT INTERVIEW, PLANT SHARED HIS REASONING FOR REJECTING AN OFFER TO APPEAR IN THE SMASH HIT SERIES GAME OF THRONES

Led Zeppelin frontman and all round legend Robert Plant has recently revealed why he turned down an offer to make a cameo appearing in Game Of Thrones. Speaking in an interview with Canadian broadcaster George Stroumboulopoulos, Plant mentioned in a somewhat tongue-in-cheek manner that having already explored the idea of being a sword-bearing badass in the Led Zeppelin classic Immigrant Song, he didn’t want to becoming “typecast” by playing a similar role in the HBO fantasy series.

The topic of Game Of Thrones arose during a recent before-an-audience interview with Stroumboulopoulos, which has since been shared via the broadcasters Twitter feed.

‘I started that shit!’ Plant exclaimed when the subject was brought up.

When asked if he’d ever watched George R. R. Martin’s fantasy epic, Plant replied “No”, but then goes on to mention that “I got offered a part in that.”

The broadcaster asked the reason why Plant turned down the role, and he jokingly responded with “I don’t want to be typecast.” The audience laughed, before Plant said “I mean, I started that shit!”

“Go back to Immigrant Song, and Led Zeppelin being part of a cultural exchange in Iceland with the Icelandic government. They didn’t really know what they’d invited onto their little island. So on the way back on the plane, I started thinking about… because I love Western European history from maybe the Bronze Age up through all the old religion… when we were really in touch with our earth. And so the Viking thing was obviously that whole idea of playing in Iceland and experiencing this amazing landscape and people.”

“So yeah, I’ve got a lot to answer for, really,” Plant joked. Zeppelin’s influence on not only music, but also media as a collective is simply undeniable.

Throughout the series, members of Coldplay, Mastodon, Snow Patrol, Sigur Ros, Wilko Johnson and Ed Sheeran all appeared, but sadly Plant did not feel inclined to join their ranks. Although, after such an illustrious and influential career, can you really blame the man?

Robert Plant is currently on tour alongside Alison Krauss.
