Educating The Children (ETC) is set to mark a significant milestone with the upcoming celebration of “Code Queen @ 5” on March 28, 2025. This event, taking place at Motiv Bugolobi in Kampala, Uganda, will commemorate five years of the Code Queen initiative, which has been instrumental in advancing tech skills among young unemployed women in Uganda.
Sponsored by the UK-registered charity Educating the Children (ETC), Code Queen has played a pivotal role in closing the gender gap in the technology sector by providing women with accessible education and training. The initiative is noted for its emphasis on employability skills in software development, mindset, and work readiness. By doing so, Code Queen aims to build a robust community of women who support each other and contribute meaningfully to the tech landscape in Uganda and beyond.
The celebration will feature keynote speeches from leading executives in technology, partners of Code Queen, and successful alumni who have made significant strides in the industry. Panel discussions will delve into topics like the future of women in tech and strategies for fostering inclusive environments in the sector. In addition, the event will offer ample networking opportunities and culminate in recognition awards for those who have made significant contributions to the program’s success.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonal Kadchha, the founder of ETC, highlighted the global disparity in opportunities and underscored the unique challenges faced by women in Africa. Kadchha emphasised ETC’s commitment to addressing these gaps, stating, “Talent is equally distributed globally, but opportunities are not. In Africa, and particularly among women, this disparity is pronounced. Our work focuses on the most marginalised groups in these regions. We are a small, innovative charity making a significant impact where it’s most needed.”
